LOOKING INTO THE NATIONAL UNITY PLATFORM (NUP) RUNAWAYS

The runaways' hopes of making money drowned along the way

When people power was starting, it was seen as group of youths say 'hooligans' as they were called by some government officials. Everyone who wanted to be heard or make a name for him or herself entered the people power movement. 

At that point people power had few capable individuals that can cause a change in the country. All we could see were youths from kamwokya and inexperienced wannabe politicians who only wanted to be on social media to make noise and get recognised. 

Along the way, people power gave birth to formation of a political party, National Unity Platform. This became too big to be handled by the noise makers as now it was serious political business with the aim of changing government. 

The current individuals running away from NUP are not equivalent to the established members of parliament who are joining NUP from other parties. They have many years of experience in politics and have been in opposition all their political careers.

People like Bajjo and Abitex who have just left NUP have nothing they have been adding nothing to the party but they had personal interests which they realised can't be fulfilled in a political party. First of all there is no position for these gentlemen in NUP. They can’t sit and reason with intellectual MPs that have joined the party. All they can do is making stunts which only benefits them.

While on a certain TV station Bajjo declared that he is a conman who had personal interests and hoped to get money from Bobi wine. Therefore he automatically had no place in the struggle for change and the laws of natural selection have kicked him out of the game. Only the fit ones will stay to carry on the mantle.

Bobi Wine is now thinking with the intellectuals on how to change power in this country and has no time for these old music friends who expect him to remain the same with time for chatting and having beer parties.

What we are seeing here is how nature works. The unfit individuals are kicked out and the fit ones survive. At the beginning people power only had young youths with hopes of gaining money from the struggle as we saw some crossing to NRM after being bought with petty cash. So with the increasing number of big political individuals joining the party, this leaves no space for people like Bajjo as they have ‘nothing’ significant they have left to do in the party.

Instead of mobilising fellow youths on the ground, they turned their backs and started pointing fingers to Bobi Wine that he has personal gains and does not give them their share of the money which wasn’t talked about when joining the struggle. 

This has been put into people’s minds by NRM that money is what makes a party which is the direct opposite of NUP. Therefore NUP is only being saved when these wolves in sheep skin run away as these were only eating the party from inside.
