One dead after being shot by a police officer in Nansana
The deceased is a son of a police officer
Shootings in Uganda have become the order of the day after several reckless shootings which have claimed lives of innocent civilians. Another careless shooting happened yesterday in Nansana a Kampala suburb.
One person is said to have been shot by suspected localdefense unit officer at Nansana. The deceased was identified as Daniel Kyeyune a son of a police officer and police is going to take charge of the burial arrangement.
The Kampala metropolitan spokesperson Onyango Patrick confirmed that the deceased was a son of their officer. "True, he was a son of our officer. Details of the burial arrangement are to be communicated in press release very soon," Mr Onyango said.
Daniel, who is claimed to be a member of pressure group known as people power, was shot dead as police tried to disperse a crowd that had gathered to cheer a convoy of Kyadondo legislator Robert Kyaggulanyi.
The incident happened at 8pmat masitowa Kampala-Hoima road as kyagulanyi and his supporters were returning from kiboga district for the burial of Ritah Nabukenya, a people power supporter that died in a motor crash.
Police has said that people power leaders and supporters will not participate as they did during Ritah's send-off.
Eyewitnesses said that when the convoy reachednansana , police randomly fired bullets and that's when a young man was shot. The body was soaked in blood and picked up by a police patrol vehicle and taken to a city mortuary for post mortem.
This stirred the crowd to start throwing stones at the police which also responded by using tear gas and bullets to disperse them.
